The Parenting Preparedness Program is a 6-hour online course developed by Brown’s Behavioral Institute (BBI) to help parents and caregivers better understand, interpret, and respond to complex emotional and behavioral challenges in children and adolescents.
This course was designed for families who want more than surface-level behavior advice. Rather than focusing only on stopping difficult behaviors in the moment, the Parenting Preparedness Program helps caregivers understand what behavior may be communicating, what underlying needs may be driving it, and how to respond in ways that build trust, stability, and long-term growth.
Grounded in BBI’s updated frameworks, including the CARE-CRIES Model, this course teaches parents how to recognize when behavior may reflect disrupted needs for Connection, Agency, Recognition, or Emotional Safety, and how these disruptions can lead to indirect support-seeking behaviors expressed through crisis, refusal, injury, emotional evocation, or struggle. The goal is to help families move from confusion and reactivity toward deeper understanding and more effective support.
Through this online training, parents will gain practical tools for making sense of challenging behavior, strengthening the parent-child relationship, and creating a more stable and supportive home environment. The course is built to be accessible, practical, and directly relevant to real family life.
Participants will be introduced to key concepts that help explain how behavior forms, why distress escalates, and how caregivers can respond more effectively.
The course includes training in behavioral formation, emotional and relational drivers of behavior, practical use of the A.I.M. Model, foundational principles from Therapeutic Investigation, relationship and trust building, and the Three S’s of Successful Intervention: Stabilize, Scaffold, and Supersede.
These concepts are taught in a way that helps parents apply them directly to real-world family situations.
This 6-hour online course includes structured learning modules, practical guidance, and interactive elements designed to help parents build confidence and skill. Families will move through a guided curriculum that supports deeper behavioral understanding while also learning actionable strategies they can begin using at home. The program also includes quizzes, applied assignments, live discussion opportunities, and a Certificate of Completion for participants who finish the course.

By the end of the course, parents will have a stronger understanding of why behavior happens, how to recognize support-seeking patterns, and how to respond in ways that increase emotional safety, trust, and regulation. More importantly, they will leave with a clearer framework for supporting their child with confidence, compassion, and skill.
Enroll in the Parenting Preparedness Program and gain the insight, structure, and practical tools needed to better support your child and strengthen your family’s path forward.
